CTS-V Wagon Clickbait

I just realized I didn’t get around to posting about this yet. My dad got into an accident in his 2011 Hyundai Genesis 4.6. Nobody was hurt, but he was at fault (he was parked in the back-most parallel parking space on a block and pulled out right as someone turned right around the corner) and we will find out for sure this coming week if the Genesis is totaled. It’s looking more and more like it will be written off, which is fine by me since I don’t !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . His original plan was to keep for another year or two, then sell it and buy something much nicer. However, that plan can’t exactly be moved up with me in college and my brother starting in a year. So he’s looking to stay at about $20,000. Right now the top two choices (again assuming the Genesis is indeed totaled) are a forth-gen, pre-spindle !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! or an !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I’ll keep you posted on where this goes.

The Lexus is gonna hold value much better, and I assume will be more reliable

More reliable? Hyundai/ Genesis/ Kia just won the JD Power award for most reliable. That’s the problem with people living in the past, they only think in the past. Kia right now makes a way better car than Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevy, or any other manufacturer that’s not considered luxury branded, it’s called a Stinger! Genesis makes 3 great luxury vehicles that’s easily on par with the big boys like BMW, Mercedes, Infiniti, Jaguar, or Lexus. You get all the goodies for a lot less money. And you’ll never suffer in the least when it comes to ride quality. But hey I get it, some people are so brand minded they dont see or know a better thing even with it right in front of their face.

I have a 2011 Genesis 4.6 with 130k miles on it. I recently replaced spark plugs and engine mounts and the car rides like it’s brand new.

I was apprehensive about Hyundai quality when I bought the vehicle based on past reputation. That apprehension is now gone. I'm very confident in Hyundai quality and reliability. Your dad would do well to pick up another Hyundai Genesis.

Hold more value in what sense? Of course the more you pay the more the car will be worth in the end but if it is the same percent of devaluation then how can you say it holds more value? If you’re knowingly going to lose 50% of your investment would you rather lose 50% of $100,000 or 50% of $45,000 for the same exact vehicle (if not better) Just cause you pay $60,000+ for a Lexus in no way does it make i t better or higher valued, a Lexus is a Toyota and a Genesis is a Hyundai so they are both luxury brands made by low priced manufacturers with that being said a Lexus that is comparable to a G80 will cost almost double for the same amount of car (truthfully less) when you look at a Toyota Camry it’s usually priced around $30,000 about a $4000-$6000 mark up from Hyundai Sonata   so if a Lexus is really just a Toyota a Genesis is really just a hyundai, why sho uld there be a $10,000-$20,000 mark up difference between a lexus and a genesis? A nd then if we’re talking ultra luxury like the G90 which takes after the same wheelbase as a LS460, the G90 fully loaded tops out at a price of $74 ,000 has the best warranty for a luxury vehicle with lowest cost of ownership and got voted #1 luxury vehicle of 2018 over Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Volvo, etc. Lexus L s460 STARTS at $75,000 and you don’t get all the features and warranties, If you’re looking for your “Best buy” and longevity with low cost, the Genesis is the way to go.

A friend of mine had an LS460 that he replaced with an Infiniti Q70 3.7 awd a.k.a. updated M37x . The LS needed suspension work including air springs and other stuff where he could’ve spent like $7-10k to fix it all up. He likes the Q70 a lot but it’s not quite as fauwncy as the LS.

I think he had that block of text saved in microsoft word and was waiting to finally unleash it...  Ironically foiled by his confusion with brands.

2015 genesis. More reliable than Cadillac or Infiniti. The LS will cost more year for year

As stated before the Lexus will hold value better but will cost much more up front.  They are both great choices and I think choosing should be pretty easy... Does your dad want something sportier or something more luxurious with more prestige.  Personally, I'd grab the M57, it isnt on every block and I still love that interior.

We talked about a newer S80 or XC70, but he’s had enough issues with the running costs on European cars over the decades that the next car is gonna be Asian more likely than not.

2013 Lexus GS350 can be had for around 20K with about 50 on it and it will do easily another 100 of mostly trouble free miles. I have one luxury package and it's really nice cruiser. But I had to get an 06 IS350 because the GS is not fun to drive.

Wow the Genesis fanbois really came out of the woodwork, didn’t they?

Sorry about the accident, but glad everyone is OK.  Would think the M56 or LS are both great choices, depending on what you want - one is a bit different and unusual, one is not.  I find the Infiniti interiors a bit odd, personally, but I would think the M56 will be more fun to drive, perhaps a bit less cushy.
